Michelle's journey to the top of Oregon's second largest private foundation began in her hometown of New York, where she worked as a community organizer and civil rights lawyer. DePass is president and CEO of Meyer Memorial Trust and a nationally-recognized leader at the intersection of social, economic and environmental justice. Rukaiyah is the board chair of Albina Vision Trust.

Her pro bono work includes negotiating on behalf of the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights, the Homeless Prenatal Project in San Francisco and the National Children's Defense Fund. In the past, she has served on the boards of the Black Coalition on AIDS and Portland Center Stage. She also serves as chair of the Oregon Investment Council, the board that manages approximately $90 billion for the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund. She serves on the board of directors of Oregon Public Broadcasting. Rukaiyah holds a BA from Carleton College with Academic Distinction, a JD from Stanford Law School, where she served on the Law and Policy Review, and an MBA from The Stanford Graduate School of Business. She started her career as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in San Francisco.
Before joining Meyer, she was director of investment management at The Standard, where she oversaw the capital markets fund.
